Last week I took my son to Rheged. I ordered burgers at the restaurant downstairs and my son was standing on the chair and refusing to sit down. Our waiter came over and I said, "We don't get out much." He replied, "I can see by the fact that he doesn't know how to sit in a chair." He was a twenty something guy with a posh accent, not Cumbrian. After that he kept bringing us whatever we needed and kept calling my son "Sir". I tipped well because of the way he managed my child and me, sarcastically but professionally. Contrast this to today when I took my son to the leisure centre. I was reading the New York Times and the Guardian on my phone and my three year old son went down the slide and kept coming up to me proud of himself each time he did it. He was so cute and so happy. Then he spilled some water on the floor. I told him, "If you spill water on the floor we won't be allowed to come back to the soft play." Some other mother came up right next to our table and passively aggressively started mopping up the water with blue roll. Then she went back to her table and started talking about me to like six of her friends. Before she got into our space I didn't even notice her. I was totally oblivious to everyone around me. I was there for like an hour and a half minding my own business. Honestly why was this woman paying attention to me and my child? Get a life! After she cleaned up the water I squirted juice on the floor just to spite her. Then some other woman at the table next to me came over to my table and asked me if I needed help. I wanted to tell her off but I ignored her. Then my son came back from down the slide and squired juice near the passive aggressive woman for attention. I started laughing. She said to her big group that I was laughing and they all started talking about me. Then a man grabbed my child and grabbed the juice box out of his hand. I said, "Don't touch my child!" He said they shouldn't let crazy people like me in the soft play. Then the woman next to me said, "Can I take your plate away from you?" She really annoyed me but I didn't say anything to her. The first woman reported me for spilling juice and a worker came up to me and said I'm not allowed to spill juice. I asked for a manager and I said the man had touched my child and taken my child's juice box away. She said she would call the police. I said no and I left and started crying and everyone in the soft play was watching me and the table of six grown adults were still saying stuff about me. I want to go out in public without strangers undermining me! I am so sad for my child, he was excited all day about going to the soft play and now he will never be going back there again. I will be using the soft play at Rheged from now on. It's far away from us but at least there aren't as many chavs with authoritarian parenting styles. My child misbehaves in public because random people always undermine me because as a single woman I am usually alone. My child is well behaved at home. He is not well behaved when strangers give attention to his undesirable behaviour, i.e. a six foot tall man grabbing a juice box out of the hands of a three year old! My child was not hurting anyone he simply spilled water on the floor and a table of six adults started making fun of me, a woman and her child sitting alone minding their own business. What an awful experience.

Decent enough facilities and prices acceptable let down by really poor administration. Easier to drive in for information than calling for example.

Amazingly good swimming and climbing wall instructors. Really great coaching team but on the whole I have had poor experiences with the administration team. Ask a simple question and more often than not they won't know the answer. Most reception staff are, however, polite and friendly but with some noticeable exceptions, where the staff's off hand attitude is truly stunning! Changing rooms are not very nice - people leave clothes in the cubicles rather than lockers and often there are absolutely no free changing rooms. The management do nothing about this. There needs to be more visible cleaning teams, especially in the loos! No partnership Gym memberships and no off peak gym memberships, so we no longer bother with the gym as it's overpriced for what you get.

These people are thieves. They have taken about 90 from my bank account despite my cancellation of membership in March. Absolutely not to be trusted.Edit: This may be under review

Gym is tiny and busy and expensive for what it is..., loose weights always in the wrong place and scattert across the floor I see plenty of staff but never tidying the gym, changing facilities are unpleasant to say the least . .and to top it off the parking is always full. Normally a que when you get to the desk all for the pleasure of nearly 50 quid a month.
