Very scenic car park at the head of Haweswater and the kick off point for many good walks, but busy even in winter, so get there early if you are hoping to park and park neatly so you leave room for others!

Great scenery, lovely walks around here.

We were here in the very dry summer of 2018. At that time the reservoir level was so low that you could walk among the remains of Mardale, the village which was flooded in the 1930's when the reservoir was constructed. Very interesting. Probably not wise to visit with a caravan or large motorhome though as the road to it is very narrow. There is a limited amount of parking at Mardale Head.

A relatively quiet, wonderful area of the Eastern Lakes in Penrith Mountain Rescue Team's patch.

End of the road car park. Lovely walk up to Small Water and beautiful quiet valley. Came to see the walls and road coming out of the reservoir in the dry spell.
